Farmer wanna-be's

John surprised us all over the weekend with this!

Meet Buddy the Calf......

We ended up going back for a second calf, which died the next day. :( We had a couple of little heartbroken cowgirls but we quickly decided we are not going to give up so quick. I went about three times to check on Buddy last night since it was his first night to spend alone in the barn. Can you believe we actually talked about bringing him into the laundry room for the night since it got down in the 20's? Maybe we are not cut out to be farmers after all but it is sure fun trying. Let me tell you how nice it has been to have farmer-friends!

When John came back from buying bottles and calf formula from the feed store, look what else he picked up while he was there. I think I'm going to be too busy to blog for awhile. Anybody wanna come for a tour of the Urban Funny Farm?

Hey! Bring that calf inside! He can sleep in the boys' room and learn to be potty trained like Bliss and Moses! Have fun with the chicks too!

I thought his name was Paco? Sebastian asks every day to go see if the chicks have grown. I found some pot bellied pigs, a llama and some goats on craigslist... if your gonna be farmers you gotta go all the way!

So, does John usually impulse shop on all occasions, or just when it involves livestock?????

So sorry that the little calf died. He may have had some type of disease that caused it and not the cold. Most animals don't live in a barn and most calves are left in the pasture. FYI. My Grandpa was a cattle farmer. He is awful cute, though.

So, I guess when I need a dozen eggs, I know where to come.

Charissa - hate to tell you this but most bottle babies don't do that great :( Most of the time they are growth stunted and there is usually a reason they were sold off their momma (proves how good nursing your baby is).
I think it's awesome your kids are getting exposed to farm life!

What a kids paradise!!
How cool to live on all that land with all of those cute little animals.
Lucky!! ;)

You beat me to the chicks! Our will be here at the end of the month! Our little "boys" are doing well... one tip of advice... if bottle feeding seems to take forever - we found that making the nipple hole a little bigger will help!
Enjoy your Buddy! Yesterday, our boys named ours Brownie (who looks alot like Buddy!) and Cuddles!

Take care!

awww, super cute pics!! And I can't remember who said it, but they are right most times bottle babies just don't do as well as momma fed. That was a part of the problem we had with our goats. And oh my.....contemplating bringing him inside! That would be a sight :)

So cute and so fun! But, yes livestock definitely brings it sadness and challenges.

Bottle feeding is pretty fun for the kids. My family bottle raises (with the doe's milk) all the kids they have from their goats. They turn out awesome!!

Farm life is such a great experience for the kids.
