Alright so here is the deal with our adoption of Joseph. Our paperwork is totally clear and we are approved to adopt him.
However, we have learned recently that there is a problem on Joseph's end. We are being told that there are problems in Joseph's paperwork that may deem him un-adoptable. The problem stems from the fact that he was born to foreign parents who have since returned to their home country several years ago.
We are being prepared for the reality that we may not be able to adopt Joseph after all. Obviously this news was very heartbreaking to us, as we have fallen head over heels in love with this little boy and want nothing more than to make him ours. However the greater tragedy is that this child would have to spend his life as an orphan, and as a child with Down syndrome, he faces the mental institution very soon. We do not think this is fair and we do not think this is acceptable.
We have asked the facilitator to make a plea to the judge. In nursing school we were taught to look at the patient and not the numbers or the paperwork. We are asking the judge to do the same. Look at the CHILD. What is in his best interest? Joseph is truly stranded, with nobody to call his own. We want to be his family and we are asking the judge to recognize that fact and make the decision that is right for Joseph.
Now that you know, we hope you will pray with us for favor.
Joseph deserves a family. Don't you agree?

Good job summing it up. We will continue to pray for Joseph.
We are all hanging in there and praying this situation will soon be resolved! God can move mountains as well as Pharaoh's heart! "God, be with little Josef today."
So, like if he is born in another country, the judge has to decide whether he is subject to the laws of his 'mother land', or does he RULE according to the laws of the land where he was born. Some things look like the statute of limitations would say that 'so much time has elapsed for a close relative to come forward and take responsibility', that a judge would use plain common sense and drop the gavel. Laws can be so complicated.
We will be thinking about you and hoping you get the good news that you are hoping for. I hope the judge can do just as you said and look past the paperwork.

Of course Charissa, I will definitely pray for Joseph and for the judge to have compassion for him and the situation.

Yes!!! Praying for favor for you and for Joseph... he needs a family and that is God's heart! Praying the judge will see that too.
Praying that the judge does the right thing and for Joseph to come home! :)
YES! He does deserve a family and you are deserving of the blessing of Joseph! Praying with you, my friend. Love you!
PRAYING... DEFINITELY PRAYING....
Joseph absolutely deserves a family - I hope the judge can see that! When will you hear more? Do you have to go there to move forward?
Praying for Joseph and a quick solution to all this! That little boy needs to get home.

Praying HARD for this situation!!!
Oh my goodness, praying things resolve quickly.
Have been wondering if something was going on. I check your blog several times a week, and it is not like you to go so long without sharing something of your family.
Yes, I think Joseph deserves (!!) a family, and a wonderful one he will receive in yours. Sweet Lord. Please move the hearts and minds of the authorities so that your mercy for the fatherless will be revealed in this situation. We know you can do anything. We ask that you make a way where there seems to be no way. As you had a purpose in Joseph of the Bible's hardships and trials, may these that little Joseph is facing lead to great results in the lives of so many, too. And as Joseph the father of Jesus was selected for a special purpose, may this little Joseph's special purpose be realized, too, with nothing hindering your plan for him.
God bless you all. Please keep us posed. Charissa!
Fervently praying.
Yes, and we are praying for you!
Wow, I hope the judge will hear the case, be compassionate and let Joseph be adopted. That would be insane if he thought it best to keep him there! How could his bio family do that . . . have a child, give him up and leave the country like he doesn't even exist. Wow.
Can't they send or fax the document needed to the mother and have her sign it? For goodness sake, that shouldn't be too difficult! I just cannot understand why every. single. step. in. the. process. must be made SO difficult! UGH!

Oh my goodness. Poor Joseph and poor you. I truly hope the judge looks at Joseph and sees he doesn't belong in a mental institution but rather a lovely family who WANT to adopt him to make their own.
I still have his picture (and Charlies) on my fridge... so I see them both multiple times a day.
I hope this gets works out quickly and things can go as planned.
You and he are both in my prayers.
praying it all works out!
Hope the judge looks past the paperwork :) Good Luck!
Oh Charissa, I am so sorry about this news. May the judge have a special heart for Joseph.
Joseph sure deserves a family. And as the prime minister of one of those countries could make an exception for us because that was in the best interest of the children, I believe an exception can be, should be and hopefully will be made!
Praying for this situation!
I pray for favor with the judge for Joseph. Every child deserves to have a home and family that loves them. I pray for your continued strength and peace during this time of waiting. Thank you for sharing this it allows us to know what to pray for.
Praying for you, your family, and Joseph in this difficult time.
Continuing to pray for favor!
Much love to you all!
