Packing for You Know Where

As I'm making lists and packing to go to You-Know-Where, I am wondering what should be on my list and in my suitcase? For anyone who has traveled to you-know-where lately, or any foreign country for that matter, what did you wish you had taken? Or what were you glad you took? My packing motto is usually that if you can't buy it at Walmart once you're at your destination then you didn't need it very badly. However, I don't think You-know-where HAS a Walmart.

I was glad that I took zip-lock bags, garbage bags, peanut butter, tuna, hand sanitizer, purse-sized tissue packets, protein bars, granola bars, wrinkle release spray, AND my husband. :) Enjoy your time there.

I am actually packing very little. I love getting the real Ukraine experience which means buying over there or going without. He he, I'm cookoo like that but I really enjoyed our trips when I did that in the past.

I'm wondering about packing, too. Last time we went, it was winter and COLD. Will be different - and great - to see everything in summer time! I'm trying to pack as little as possible. But I know myself well enough to know that's going to be tough.

We took several boxes of Velvetta and it was a great "taste of home".

Pack a couple of sets of very light clothing, it can be HOT. Just because the locals all bundle up doesn't mean you have to suffer too. :-)

I was glad I took those laundry sheets that have the detergant and the fabric softner all in one sheet. Very handy and light weight. Even if you don't have access to a washing machine, you can soak your clothes in the tub/shower/sink with these sheets.

When we went to China, I was warned that they didn't sell tampons there. So it'll be time for "you know who", you may want to be prepared:) And any medicine you may need because buying that stuff in a foreign country is scary. Stuff for your son, like Tylenol, Benedryl (our son had some kind of allergic reaction and I had find another American who had it), immodium, etc.

Charissa -

When you have a moment, could you e-mail me privately at

Thanks

Well, we didn't go to you-know-where but a very similar place and the two most important things were pepto and a prescription for Cipro. Our doctor was happy to give it to us and I def. needed it on trip two! Also, children's tylenol (buy generic and check the recall!), benadryl, hand sanitizer, and febreze. Just my two cents :) Have a wonderful trip!! :)

In my experience living in four foreign countries - 2 in Europe and 2 in Asia I would say that it takes time in the country for shopping to be easy, so I say pack heavy and be prepared to leave stuff there - someone will love it. Take a large purse, Cipro, immodium, comfortable shoes and comfort foods. Never, ever, EVER wear a new bra on a flight half way around the world - my worst travel mistake. Relax, laugh, be flexible and have a wonderful time. And congratulations too.

Hi there! My family is friends with Otamendis, and my mom made a trip with Linda down to your parents in Mexico once. (I also met them when I was much younger.) Anyways, Linda told me you're adopting from Ukraine. We were there last October to adopt, and we came home with a beautiful little girl who is almost 3 now. It looks like a lot of bloggers I already follow are following your journey, too, so I'm surprised I hadn't seen your blog before.

Anyhow... I took a few of our favorite spices: garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning. It made cooking in our apartment easier. Since you know who you're adopting and where you'll be headed, maybe you don't care, but we traveled blind, and ended up waiting in Kiev for 2 weeks, so I'm glad we had them along! Also, baggies, a cord to hang in the apartment as a clothesline, peanut butter, and Twizzlers. (They don't melt like chocolate!)

Blessings as you go to get Joseph!

I wished I had brought plastic sheets (we had bed bugs), toilet paper, tomato sauce (I craved it the whole time I was there), and peanut butter.
