Names?

Thanks for all the great book suggestions. I've already reserved some of them at the library. Ya'll should really go take a look here.

OK, now how about some name suggestions for the little girl in Ethiopia we are adopting? I am stumped.

Selah is my favorite girl name at the moment, but all of your kids names are precious!

Selah Urban- BEAUTIFUL ;)

Your children have such nice names - it's hard to match! I think it should be "soft" though, with no hard sounds like T, R or K, just like the others. Maybe Ella or Molly or Sissela or Naomi?

(Remember, I'm foreign, so I don't know what might sound old-fashioned)

Traditionally, in Africa, children are given names with meanings. For example, Faith, Hope, Precious, Dolly. Other ideas may be Malika (meaning Queen), Tisha (strong willed), Imena (dream).
Good luck choosing a name!!

I like the names Brooke and Brooklyn :) Also like Christa, Paige, and Madison.

Are you using her African name as a middle name? In other words is there something we need to 'match'? I always go to 2 sources:

http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/
(use this to avoid getting a name that is too popular)

http://www.babynames.com/Names/search.php
(It allows searching by beginning or ending sounds)

I'll think about it and let you know if I come up with anything.

The name Yenee (pronounced like Renee) is Ethiopian for "Mine". :-)

The "Mine" certainly can (and does!) refer to the Lord, but can also show how you all recognize her as your's.

If you actually want to look up African names and their meanings:

I only looked through a few of them. But my favorites were "Adanna" - "Daddy's girl", and "Amara" - "grace".
