My little 1950's girl

I'm trying out a new version of blogger in this post. So forgive me if I screw it up...

Would you believe I MADE this 50's poodle skirt last night?? Out of a tablecloth I found at the GoodWill and some felt and yarn from the craft box. I'd say it's not too bad.

Considering I don't really sew! Ha.

Liesel is in the 4th grade play tomorrow night. This girl reminds me SO much of myself when I was her age. Notice how she won't look at the camera. She felt soooo.....embarrassed to go to school dressed like this today for rehearsal, afraid everyone was going to 'stare' at her.

Good thing she is just a singer in the back row huh?
My poor Mom spent a lot of time when she was here a couple of weeks ago teaching me how to make pin curls and poofy buns.....50's style....in preparation for tomorrow night's event.

And then I went and put it up in a scarf and pony tail. Sorry Mom.

I don't know that I would have been very stylish had I lived in the 50s.

How in the world did you make the poodle? That is AWESOME and she looks amazing :)

Thanks Mandy. The poodle was the easiest part. Just traced a poodle silhouette straight onto paper straight off the computer screen. Then pinned it to a piece of black felt and traced around it. So easy.

You did a fantastic job on that skirt! I think it looks very stylish. Both hairstyles look authentic, but I can understand going for the quicker one (I have memories of waking up waaaay too early on a school day to achieve a certain time-intensive hairstyle). How did you do the trim on the skirt? Is it yarn like the leash. Also, did you follow a particular pattern for the skirt? It's so cute I'm tempted to make one for myself :-)

Yes, Mary, the leash is yarn, and the trim is black ribbon that I sewed to the bottom. Saved me from having to hem it. :)

Wow!! How did i not think of using a round tablecloth! I have come up with a lot of 50s outfits as we live by the Surf Ballroom where Buddy Holly last played and later died in a plane wreck. Huge tourist attraction?? Also a medical supplier will have large youth diapers. We have them delivered and they are fairly cheap, although we receive them on the waiver.
