A weird day

Yesterday afternoon, one of the kids walked outside to see billowing smoke coming from the direction of Ava's school, and she was there (I told you it is right across the street but we can't see it for the trees behind our house) and heard fire engine sirens. I immediately started screaming for everyone to get in the car NOW!! I wasn't sure what I'd do once I was there but I just needed to get there to rescue my little girl.

Well one of the kids happened to be without clothing at the time of this incident, and hearing my screaming and hollering, came downstairs, as he was. I made him get in the car anyway.

Turns out the smoke was coming from behind the school, probably a farmer burning his trash. But I decided to go ahead and take the library books back that were due and the movie we had rented back to RedBox, all the while with an indecent person in the very back seat. (Thankfully he found a blanket back there to cover himself with).

When it was all said and done we had a good laugh over it. But ironically, this is the craft that came home in Ava's backpack yesterday:

Well, Ava's little firefighter helmet might have come in very handy yesterday! Is this the school's or community's fire safety awareness week (or month), perhaps?

There was a suspected gas leak at the elementary school just up the hill from my house a few evenings ago - a few late-working teachers were still there. As in your situation, it all came to naught, but was pretty scary at the time, with throngs of fire engines, etc.

So glad it was a "false alarm" - but am still laughing over your son's "where's the fire??" attire! (or lack thereof...). I knew there was a good reason to keep a blanket in the car!

So glad to know everyone was safe, except for the indecent person in the car. Poor thing. Ava did a great job on her craft.
