New Years Eve plans.....

My sister Marlita and her husband and two kids are coming over for pizza (take-out, of course) tonight. We are going to eat, play games, enjoy the kid chaos, maybe watch a movie, and stay up late.

What is everyone else doing?

We always have a party--New Year's at Nine. We set the clocks ahead 3 hours. Everyone comes at 7:00 and we ring in the New Year with noisemakers and hats. This year we had 27 kids and 19 adults. It was a blast and everyone got home before the crazy people were on the road.

Happy New Year!

I worked until 9, then picked up a bottle of wine and some snacks on the way home. I fell asleep right before Constantine was over, but woke up as the fireworks started going off and my husband jumped on top of me saying "Happy New Year" :)

I fought off my cold long enough to attend the very festive New Year's Eve banquet with friends at Berea College's Christmas Country Dance School, then went over to the evening dance, "parlor activities" (singing carols and other traditional songs, informal storytelling, instrumental performances, sharing of all kinds of good stuff by many talented people from all over), saw this year's Mummers' Play - hilarious, with many topical references, and a fundraiser for the scholarship fund - and finally sang and danced the New Year in before folding around 12:30. Christmas School has been going on for seventy years now, between Dec. 26 and January 1 each year, and offers five days of intensive classes in traditional folk dance of various kinds, crafts, singing, storytelling, and much more, along with evening dance parties and parlors. Over 350 people attended this year, from about 30 states and several countries (Canada, USA, Ireland, England, Denmark). I wore myself out ahead of time and was hard-hit with a flu-like illness, despite my shot, so missed a lot this time, alas. I resolved to do better next year!
