Day 1, or 2, depending on how you look at it

We had a great visit with Joseph today!! He is smart, lovable, funny, energetic, inquisitive, and......a boundary tester. :) But he is sooooo adorable, and we think he will fit into the Urban family perfectly.

This is the first sight we saw as we walked into the orphanage courtyard....I think the person who runs this place loves the color yellow. What do you think?

He was pushing the dolly in this little stroller when we arrived, and his babushka nanny told him to follow us, his new mama and papa, so we could get to know each other. He came willingly, and he even motioned for me to carry him! (He points to his armpits, like monkey arms, to show where to pick him up...how cute is that!)

He is a very happy and sweet boy. We really communicated pretty well, with no words at all. He kept motioning for us to "come" explore the woods with him. Ha. I guess this would explain all the scrapes and scratches all over his body. That and the fact that his body seems to move faster than his reflexes. He's a little clumsy, but doing so well.

There was another little group of kids who were getting baths today. Outside with a bucket and a water hose. Boys and girls both. How cute is this? Poor little Joseph, in the yellow underwear, wanted to get hosed down too but the Nanny shoo'd him away. I guess it wasn't his turn!

When visiting hours were over, and the babushka Nanny called Joseph to come in for lunch, he protested. In fact he cried and cried, and arched his back when John tried to hand him over to the Babushka! Of course I assumed this meant our visit went extremely well for him also, and that he liked us so much that he didn't want to see us leave.....

Instead, he ran over to the garden hose and motioned for John to come over and help him figure out how to turn it on! heh heh. What a silly boy!!

I am in love!

He sounds like he's going to be a whole lot of fun!!! I have to say that I'm glad to see that we're not the only ones with sweat marks all over our backs (I noticed the tell-tale sweat on your husband's shirt) It is HOT, HOT, HOT!!!

Enjoy your visits!

We were in Ukraine at this very time in 2002. Actually met our Luke on June 10th. I'm shocked at all the skin I'm seeing in your pictures! Ha! I remember all the kids were completely bundled up during our visits. I peeled back layers of clothes each time we played outside. Its great to see them outside getting sun and playing! Love it and love seeing you enjoying Joseph!
